Chandigarh's Beloved Sweet Shop, Bakery & Dairy
From One Shop to 20+ Outlets · Chandigarh & Punjab

A legacy Chandigarh sweet shop that started with milk and dairy, grew into sweets and bakery, and now runs 20+ outlets across the region. Antraajaal built the brand system — indoor branding, menus, hoardings and product packaging — that made Gurunanak Sweets look as good as it has always tasted.

01 — The Brand

From a Single Dairy Shop
to Chandigarh's Most Loved
Sweet House — Branded.

Gurunanak Sweets is the kind of Chandigarh institution that locals don't just visit — they grow up with. What started as a milk and dairy shop, serving the freshest paneer, dahi and milk to Chandigarh's families, gradually evolved into one of the city's most beloved sweet shops and bakeries — adding mithai, snacks, fresh baked goods and a range of dairy products that kept generations of customers coming back.

Twenty-plus outlets later, Gurunanak Sweets was no longer a neighbourhood shop with a reputation. It was a growing chain with the kind of loyal customer base that most F&B brands spend millions trying to build — but with a visual identity and in-store experience that hadn't kept pace with the brand's scale and ambition.

Antraajaal was brought in to build the complete brand system: the indoor branding that transformed every outlet into a consistent, appetising, brand-strong environment; the menu design that communicated the full range with the warmth and appetite appeal the products deserved; the product packaging for the mithai, bakery and dairy range that made a box of Gurunanak Sweets the kind of gift people were proud to carry; and the hoardings and outdoor collaterals that claimed Chandigarh's neighbourhoods for the brand.

Gurunanak Sweets had everything a brand needs — quality, legacy, loyalty and scale. What it needed was the visual system that communicated all of that consistently, at every outlet, on every product, in every neighbourhood where a Gurunanak hoarding could be seen.

Into a Brand Experience
Worth Returning To.

I
Entrance & Fascia — First Impression

The Gurunanak Sweets fascia was designed to be immediately recognisable across every outlet — the brand wordmark in the signature maroon-and-gold, the sweet shop category identity communicated at a glance. Whether a customer was walking into a familiar branch or entering a new neighbourhood outlet for the first time, the fascia told them exactly where they were and what they could expect before they stepped through the door.

II
Counter & Display Area Branding

The sweet shop counter is where the purchase decision is made — and where appetite appeal is everything. Antraajaal designed the complete counter and display area environment: the branded display cases, the product category labelling, the behind-counter wall branding with the Gurunanak identity and the product range, and the point-of-purchase signage for promoted items and seasonal specials. An environment that made everything look more delicious and every purchase feel more considered.

III
Seating & Dine-In Environment

For outlets with dine-in seating — the chai-and-snack customers, the family groups stopping for samosas or fresh jalebis — the seating area was branded with Gurunanak's warmth: the maroon-and-gold palette on table talkers, the wall art that told the brand story, and the printed menu on every table. A dine-in environment that communicated heritage and appetite — making the thirty minutes a customer spent at Gurunanak Sweets feel like time in a place with a story.

IV
Scalable System — 20+ Outlets, One Brand

The most important design constraint in the Gurunanak Sweets indoor branding project was scalability. Every element of the indoor branding system was designed to be replicable across outlets of different sizes, different layouts and different configurations — with consistent brand output. The same maroon-and-gold palette, the same typefaces, the same visual hierarchy, the same appetite-first photography and illustration language — whether the outlet was 200 sq ft or 2000 sq ft, it looked unmistakably like Gurunanak Sweets.

A Menu That Sells
Before the Customer
Reaches the Counter.

Counter Display Menu
Table Menu · Dine-In

The Counter Display Menu: Gurunanak Sweets' primary menu format — the large-format backlit display board behind the counter that customers scan while they queue. Antraajaal designed the display menu hierarchy so that the most profitable and most popular products were visually prominent, the category structure was immediately navigable, and the appetite-appeal photography (where used) made every product look as good as it tasted. A menu board designed to increase average order value by making the full range visible and inviting.

The Printed Takeaway Menu: A physical menu for customers to take home — the fold-out card that sat at the dine-in counter and on tables, listing the complete Gurunanak Sweets range across mithai, bakery and dairy. Designed to encourage advance ordering, gifting purchases, and the kind of menu-scanning that leads customers to discover products they didn't know they wanted.

Seasonal and Festival Menus: Gurunanak Sweets' strongest sales periods are Diwali, Holi, Eid, Lohri and every major Punjabi festival. Antraajaal designed the seasonal menu inserts and festival special boards that communicated the gift box range, the special seasonal mithai, and the festival packaging ahead of each celebration — making sure customers thought of Gurunanak Sweets first when the gifting season arrived.

A menu at a sweet shop is not just a price list. It is an appetite trigger, a navigation system and a sales tool simultaneously. Every menu design decision — typeface size, product photography, category ordering, special callouts — was made with one question: will this make the customer order more?

The Gift Box Range: In Punjab, sweets are not just food — they are gifts, gestures and celebrations. A box of Gurunanak Sweets carried to a wedding, a festival, a house visit or a puja must communicate quality, warmth and occasion before it is opened. Antraajaal designed the Gurunanak Sweets gift box range in the signature maroon-and-gold — premium enough to gift, warm enough to feel homemade, and branded strongly enough to make the giver proud and the recipient remember where it came from.

Individual Product Packaging: Kaju Katli, Ladoo, Barfi, Gulab Jamun, and the bakery range — each product category had its own packaging variant within the Gurunanak brand system. Consistent brand colours and typography across every pack, with product-specific accents that helped customers distinguish between the sweet shop range and the bakery range at a glance. Packaging that worked for walk-in counter purchase and for gifting equally.

Dairy and Fresh Produce Packaging: The original dairy range — paneer, dahi, milk products — received packaging that communicated the freshness and purity credentials that had been Gurunanak's founding promise. Clean, dairy-appropriate design within the brand system, with the "Made Fresh Daily" and "Pure Ingredients" messaging prominently positioned as the core product promise.

Every Gurunanak Sweets box that left an outlet was a brand ambassador. A gift box of Gurunanak Sweets in someone's home communicated quality and tradition to every person who received it — and created the next customer at the same time.

The Hoarding That Made
Every Chandigarh Neighbourhood
Smell Like Gurunanak.

Outlet Hoardings: With 20+ outlets across Chandigarh and Punjab, Gurunanak Sweets had the opportunity to claim significant outdoor visibility in the neighbourhoods where each outlet operated. Antraajaal designed the outdoor hoarding system in the brand palette — the maroon and gold that was impossible to miss on a main road, communicating the brand name, the outlet location and the key product categories with the appetite appeal of a well-designed sweet shop hoarding. Consistent across all outlets, adapted for different hoarding sizes.

Festival Campaign Hoardings: Diwali, Holi, Lohri, Eid — the peak gifting and celebration seasons when Chandigarh was buying sweets in volume. Antraajaal designed the seasonal campaign hoardings that Gurunanak Sweets deployed around each festival: the gift box range communicated with urgency and festivity, the seasonal specials highlighted, and the "Order in advance" messaging that turned neighbourhood visibility into pre-planned purchases.

Shop Window & Point-of-Purchase: Shop window graphics, sticker campaigns, hanging boards and shelf talkers — the point-of-purchase materials that made every Gurunanak Sweets outlet visually consistent from the street level to the product shelf, ensuring that the brand presence was total rather than limited to the fascia and one wall panel.

In a city with 20+ outlets, outdoor branding is not just signage — it is a network. Every hoarding reinforced the same brand, the same quality promise and the same appetite appeal across every neighbourhood where a Gurunanak Sweets outlet stood.

The Scale Story

One Brand System.
20+ Outlets. Zero Inconsistency.

The true test of any retail brand system is whether it holds together at scale — whether the twentieth outlet looks and feels as intentional as the first. Antraajaal built the Gurunanak Sweets brand system with scalability as the primary design constraint.

🎨
Consistent Visual System
The maroon-and-gold palette, the Playfair Display typographic hierarchy, the brand motifs and the photography/illustration standards were documented as brand guidelines that any vendor, contractor or new outlet operator could implement consistently — with no Antraajaal present.
📐
Adaptable Layouts
The indoor branding templates, menu layouts, packaging dielines and hoarding artworks were all built as adaptable files — different outlet dimensions, different product mixes, different city names and locations — all accommodated within the same master templates without losing brand consistency.
🚀
New Outlet Ready
When Gurunanak Sweets opened new outlets, the brand onboarding was fast — the design system was already built. New outlet address, new outlet-specific materials, printed and installed from the same master templates. The brand scaled with the business, not behind it.
